MONUMENT, CO – Three candidates have been selected for interviews in the process to find a permanent Superintendent of Schools in the Lewis-Palmer School District. The Board of Education chose the candidates from a field of 23 applicants after a national search.

The applicants chosen are, in no particular order:
• Kevin E. Hahn, currently Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Schools in the Poudre School District, Fort Collins, Colorado;
• John Borman, currently Principal of Lewis-Palmer High School in District 38; and
• Mark A. Payler, currently Superintendent of Weld County School District in Fort Lupton, Colorado.

Board President John Mann said, “It reflects well on our district that so many excellent candidates are interested in working here. It was difficult to narrow the field down. I am confident that we have chosen three outstanding people with exceptional qualifications and our next steps to pick the finalist will be challenging.”

D-38 Interim Superintendent Ted Bauman added, “I am pleased with how the Board members conducted the review of the applications. They were thorough, asked great questions, and gave excellent justifications for the reasoning behind their choices. The Board and I are excited to bring the candidates in for interviews, a tour of the district, and the public reception planned next Saturday.”

These candidates will be asked to appear for interviews February 11th and 12th. Interview panels include Board members, school staff, parents, and community members. The Board interview will be held in open session. The final selection will be announced at the regular board meeting Thursday, February 17th.

MEET THE CANDIDATES: A community reception for the three candidates is planned for Saturday, February 12th at 4:30 p.m. at the D-38 administration building. The public is welcome to attend, and anyone interested should check the district website prior to the reception in case of last-minute changes.

The Lewis-Palmer School District Board of Education will be participating in an interview training workshop on Tuesday, February 8th, at 6:00 pm, in the District Administration Building. This training session will be conducted by the Colorado Association of School Boards and is in preparation for the upcoming interviews of the three candidates chosen as finalists for the position of Superintendent of Schools. Community members and District employees selected to participate on interview teams will also be attending this training to develop interview strategies and questions.

The public is welcome to attend this event.

*NOTE: this is a revised notice. The original notice posted last week on February 4, 2011, stated: “No formal District business will be conducted at this session; therefore, it is closed to the public.” According to Colorado Revised Statutes, specifically those known as “the Sunshine Laws,” any meeting in which 2 or more Board members are present must be open to the public. The only exception is when the topic of the meeting falls into very specific categories which allow them to meet in Executive Session. This meeting does not fall into any of those categories, therefore, must remain open to the public. The public will not be invited to participate in the training, but is welcome to watch.
