Final Superintendent Contract for John Borman

March 24, 2011

Here is a copy of the Superintendent Contract for Mr. John Borman, approved by the Lewis-Palmer Board of Education at its March 17, 2011 regular meeting.

Highlights of the contract include:

  • This is a two year contract effective July 1, 2011 that can be renewed for one or more years beginning in October of 2012.
  • Base salary of $148,000 per year (at one work session with Mr. Bob Cito of CASB, who was hired to consult the Board on the process of hiring the new superintendent, a salary range of $120,000 to $145,000 was discussed. In the official brochure listing the open position and application process, the salary offered is $145,000. No specific reason was given at the Board meeting as to why an initial $3000 pay raise was negotiated. This salary is a great deal less than what was paid to former superintendent Blanch, and over $20,000 more than is being paid to interim superintendent Bauman, but the public should question this amount, especially given Mr. Borman’s lack of Administrative License or any experience at the Superintendent level.)
  • Removal of Automatic-renewal clause as in past superintendent contract. If the Board fails to negotiate a renewal of the contract by the dates given, the contract expires.
  • The contract still includes a “pay out” if the Board decides to remove the superintendent without cause. It amounts to either the remainder of the contract term or $72,500, whichever is less.
  • The contract also includes vacation, sick days, health benefits equivalent to all full-time district employees, and expense reimbursement (no amount is given, it simply reads: The District shall reimburse the Superintendent for reasonable expenses necessarily incurred outside El Paso County by the Superintendent in carrying out his duties hereunder, subject to submission of paid receipts.).
